Will a Solar Flare 2012 Event Fulfill the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy?

My love of books has led me to a love of writing, and I've spent some time lately writing about what's most on my mind - the ancient Mayan doomsday prophecy and the possibility of a solar flare 2012 event that could end the world as we know it. Here's a look at an article I've recently had published at ezinearticles.com:

Solar Flare 2012 - Will the Ancient Mayan Doomsday Prophecy Be Fulfilled?

Time marches on, bringing us closer and closer to the auspicious date that many believe will bring us to time's end: December 21, 2012. Many sources indicate that this date will prove to be a significant one in our earth's history. Of these, the best known is arguably the Mayan Long Count Calendar which ends precisely at 11:11 AM Universal Time on Winter Solstice, 2012.

The ancient Mayans were brilliant mathematicians and astronomers who measured the movement of patterns made by the planets and stars with an accuracy that has since been verified by modern computer programs. Scholars believe that Mayan observation of the heavens led the ancient civilization to acknowledge a future astronomical event of such magnitude that the world as we know it would end. Can it be simply a coincidence that most researchers agree that the year 2012 will see the greatest solar flare activity in almost 15,000 years? A quick comparison of Mayan and modern interpretations of coming solar events will help clarify why so many believe we are indeed living in the end times described by many religions and cultures throughout the ages.

From a scientific viewpoint, on December 21, 2012, our sun's plane will be in the greatest possible alignment with the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Solar flares and coronal mass ejections together with the intense radiation found in the central bands of this Milky Way can have devastating effects on our earth. The last time a lining up like this occurred, the last ice age abruptly ended and the world's human population was drastically reduced. However, though the world was changed by these events, it did not end.

With their astronomical prowess, the Mayans most certainly were aware of the position that key celestial bodies would assume in late 2012. A difference in outlook between the Mayan and modern interpretation of what this would mean has a basis in Mayan mythology. For the Mayans, the sun was a deity, and the ridge in the center of the Milky Way was the gateway from life to afterlife, or heaven. In light of this, the 2012 alignment would take on deep meaning; at this time, the sun god would return to the afterlife, or heaven, from which he had come, bringing time full circle.

Like modern solar flare theory, the Mayan prophecy of 2012 does not claim that the world will be utterly destroyed. What both old and young theory purports is that natural, cyclical solar events will trigger change that will catapult those who survive into a very different future than we can easily imagine.

It is worth noting that although the world will change when the prophecy is fulfilled, and many will die, most sources support the idea that there will be survivors. With the solar flare 2012 only 2 years away, the time to prepare to survive is now. Visit Countdown to 2012

  1. Ancient Mayans are really great but there are really some predictions that won't come true. But I believe in prophecy. I heard some from Tim Jones in Spokane and it was really great.
