I'm starting to wonder where I've been . . . the 2012 buzz that I've just recently tuned into has certainly been around for a while. Groups that believe in 2012 have been stockpiling supplies and building comet proof dwellings for several years now. . .So why am I just now catching on? I managed to miss the presentation by the history channel pertaining to the ancient Mayan doomsday prophecy, and I had no idea a major film had been released until well after it hit the slightly reduced DVD racks at Walmart.

Where on earth have I been?

Living my life, I guess. I've been doing what millions of other people do every day. Going to work, going back home, eating, sleeping, breathing. . .just living each day very much as if I expect life as I know it to go on forever.

Except as I delve more and more deeply into current 2012 research, I'm beginning to realize that life can change in an instant, and everything about the way I am living life today on this planet can end in little more than a blink of the eye.

It's kind of like being an ant, scooting along the sidewalk on his way back to his ant hill, engrossed in his world of cracks and crumbs and pebbles and wayward blades of grass, and then suddenly a huge foot steps down seemingly out of nowhere, crushing the ant hill and changing the what is left of the ant colony's way of life abruptly. . .except that the foot didn't really appear out of nowhere. It had existed somewhere out there for a while, stepping . . . stepping . . . steadily approaching it's rendezvous with that ant hill . . .

We are a bit like that ant - a bit player in the enormity of the universe. The "shoe" that may suddenly step out of the heavens interrupting our lives won't really appear out of nowhere - it's out there even now, as the cosmos orchestrates the perfect alignment for creating the change that is ever present in this universe. Most of the time, the "footsteps" fall elsewhere. Every now and then, though, this earth is right in the way.

This is what the ancient Mayans saw in their 2012 prophecy. Planet Earth is on a collision course with destiny. Will December 21, 2012 be the day that all the possibilities fall precisely into place and life as we know it is ended?

It does make me wonder about tomorrow. . .

It's only a couple of years away - December 21, 2012. The date pinpointed by the Mayan Prophecy of 2012 as the day the world as we know it will end. The date that had no meaning for me at all until a few days ago, when I decided to take a look online to see if I could learn what all the fuss was about. What I learned from my first cursory look at a few web articles has left me trying to imagine a future that is unimaginable. In this blog I'll be posting what I learn as I learn it in my quest to understand the implications of 2012 and what lies in store for our world.

Until a few days ago, I really hadn't paid too much attention to all the hoopla surrounding the Mayan Prophecy of 2012. All I knew about it was that because a calendar created eons ago was going to run out of days on December 21, 2012, the world was supposed to end. This sounded a bit to me like the Y2K scare a few years ago - a lot of fuss about a non-event, something for the cults to rally around perhaps, but having no real substance and holding no true cause for alarm.

Then a friend mentioned that Bible Codes 2012 had been found amongst the pages of the Torah, and in short order, I stumbled across a news report concerning the likelihood of a major solar flare in 2012. 2012 was beginning to appear to be quite an auspicious number. Suddenly, I felt compelled to check out just what is known about the Mayan Prophecy of 2012. After hours of searching the internet, my opinion has changed. Almost every major and minor religion, many indigenous peoples, many cultures, and even modern science all provide evidence of a belief that the world as we know it will end in 2012.

However, not all of these sources believe that the world will be utterly destroyed. Although that is one possible scenario, there is another that posits that the world as we know it will end, and a new world will begin; in other words, some believe that what has been described as the Mayan calendar end times 2012 will actually result in a transformation into a better world.

Those who are forming 2012 survival groups fall into this latter category, although those involved do not believe that transformation will come easily. These groups are preparing for the worst; the goal being to survive the initial onslaught of death and destruction first, and then to be instrumental in repopulating the earth and rebuilding civilization.

All this certainly does give one pause. That so many divergent groups, across so many years and so scattered across the face of the earth all settled on the same date as a date of significance must be more than simple coincidence. Although I am not certain about the validity of the Mayan Prophecy of 2012, I can no longer simply discount it, either.
